Slovenia vs Malta Preview and Prediction
Slovenia missed out on Euro 2016 thanks to a playoff defeat at the hands of Ukraine last year, but they’re doing their best to make up for that disappointment and make it to Russia next summer.
Slovenia’s last outing was a 1-0 defeat away to Scotland. This ended their seven match unbeaten streak. They won’t be too worried about defeat on Saturday,
However Malta shocked everyone by claiming a 1-0 win away against Ukraine in a warm up friendly. This ended a winless streak that stretched back almost two years and is possibly their most high profile victory in history. Malta’s win on Tuesday may have been impressive, but they have still lost 13 of their last 17 matches and remain without a point in their World Cup qualifying group.
Away from home they have lost 15 of their last 18 matches, and that win against Ukraine was their first victory on the road since June 2013. In fairness to Malta they have improved slightly in recent. They have only conceded more than two away goals in one of their last 16 away games, although they have failed to score themselves in 12 of them.
This has resulted in a fair few low scoring games. 14 of their last 16 on the road have seen fewer than three goals, whilst each of Slovenia’s last eight at home have been low scoring affairs too.
PREDICTION – Under 3.5
